This beer does not underwhelm. Great thick mouthfeel that you would expect and a well balanced hoppiness. It certainly hides the 10% abv well. I dont know how else to describe it. I had the stout before but found this at the corner market. I am impressed. Flowery hoppy flavors that complement the smooth body and smell. I typically dont care for this type of hopping but they have done so tastefully. I would say this is a well balanced IPA and would buy it again. Thick brown head and a first sip that just says, "hey, im a stout. Where the hell have you been?" Passes the stout hole test easily, presents a brown chocolate malty deliciousness that i have been missing. The flavor lingers and reminds you that you just had a stout. Not quite a chocolate cake but more of a great balanced porter. I was expecting something of interest like the Sheaf Stout from Australia and i think my hunch was right. This porter is fairly malty with a slight undertone of the regular black malt. Not exactly what i go for in a porter. And stout. I had to try it. Nice brownish head, pours very nice, and has a good stout smell about it. Passes the stout hole test easily with a thin glass. It is brewed with cocoa but it isnt altogether present. I would like to try this beer without it as i feel it might taste the same. It passed a stout hole test, sickly sweet smell and a sweet taste. The mouth feel is good but its just not as good as I would like. The lingering opinion is that is just too sweet and the flavor didn't punch through. Sweet floral hoppy scent. Very light body with little flavor or mouth feel. Aside from the smell, there isn't anything to this beer. The lingering hopiness fades slowly away and leaves a bitter twinge that I thought paired very well with the spicy Thai food it accompanied. It was hopped well and seemingly more to style than I would like. Their beers are labeled pale, ipa, stout, porter, unlike the Chicago restaurants. This beer has a light body but a more pleasant pallet probably appreciated my a more diverse palette (I don't think its great but most people will). Very little head that dissipated quickly and a good after taste with a lingering porter flavor I love. It's not the sweet kind of porter that coats your mouth and I appreciate that. Overall I think the beer could only use a smidge more black malt and it would be perfect for me. Cheezborgers, cheeps, "lager", and "dark". Don't really knows who brew it yet but I'll find out. Served flat, syrup flavor, more of a weak stout than a porter. Nothing wrong with it, nothing right. Paul was my server, nice guy. Hails from Greece actually. Oddly enough, this has been my favorite watering hole in my travels of Chicago. Navy Pier was the location and the day was slow. I was glad of that. If you ever make it to this place try it out. Typical nitro thick head that has a nice bitter flavor. The body is a little lack luster and it finishes clean with a peat flavor. It's close to guiness but better. Very interesting style for a micro to do. Any porter that pours with a thick black body and dark tan head should get you thinking. This one does it for me. That first wiff and taste was a doozy. Awesome dark legging, black abyss of a body, great mouth feel, and it keeps delivering till the end of the glass. I haven't liked a porter this much since Georgetown's 9lb porter. If you love porters, grab it when you see it on the shelf. Poured a little cloudy but the head was still clean. I do enjoy the regular dead guy and this one tastes close but a bit more imperial. I don't think age has treated this beer well as its lacking some flavor that I was looking for. No guaranty that it was stored correctly either so that might have something to do with it. I'll see if I can grab some this weekend from rogue when I'm there. This bitter pours nicely with a great viscosity and clean white head. The color is a nice deep amber and the bitterness doesn't disappoint. I'd say its well balanced and fits its body well making me wish I had a few more bottles. Rode 12 miles in to get it and I'd say it's worth it. Boundary Bay started serving casks every day and it certaintly worked to my advantage today.<br /><br />Cask Porter<br />Holy great creamy head! I guess it's a typical side effect of casking and pumping but I was not expecting this. This porter is a bit sweet and not to my liking but my first cask I'm definetly in favor of it.<br /><br />Cask Oatmeal Stout<br />Surprisingly less sweet than the porter. ??? Always the beer I go for and it just happenened to not be on tap today. AFter I finished my Porter, it was casked! Happy day. The head on this one wasn't nearly as creamy but had a much better mouthfeel and oatmealy goodness. Very light flavor and body. Not sweet, which I like, but just nothing to interest me. I'd rather drink pbr.<br /><br />Humpback Pale Ale<br />Much better than the Pils. Little sweeter, still light body. Lacks substance. hops were decently done, but again, no body, nothing there to keep in my mouth. If you like hops though, the body does not get in the way of you enjoying at least that part.<br /><br />Old School Session Ale<br />Nothing there. It's like a Red but less.<br /><br />Lumberjack Red Ale<br />Munich, that's what I taste. I like munich. Very sweet overall, you get a... well... roasty... meh.<br /><br />Porter<br />Wow, more nothing. You only get the porter flavor after you swallow. Left to Right:<br /><br />Levenworth - Whistling Pig Hef<br />It's a hef.<br /><br />Boundary Bay - Dry hopped Amber<br />Actually pretty good! It had a mellower sweet/peaty body that I thought was prominent with their regular amber. The dry hoppiness wasn't supper appearant but just enough that an informed beer drinker would be taken aback with a, "whats this???" Recommended if you get a chance, is Boundary making improvements?<br /><br />Scuttlebutt - Pale Ale<br />Been a while since I've seen a scuttlebutt beverage on tap so I grabbed this one up. It had an off white thickish head that was on par with a pale or ipa. The body is light to light brown color. Very clear with a very slight haze. The hops were a smidge spicy cleary not overdone. I wouldn't say this is an outstanding pale but it's good enough to drink more than a few of and not get tired of. It had a great finish that clung just enough that you could enjoy it even after you set it down. The head is a super dark foam that had a dense top. The pour is viscous and uneventful as it filled my glass. No bubbles or gurgles like I just poured some 5w30 out of it's container. Very impressive for a lager, even impressive if it was a porter! The smell is great and reminds me of every great porter I've had in the past, even mine. The body is just as good! Thick on the tongue and coats my mouth with a thick burnt slighty chocolately deliciousness. Great bitterness too, kinda filled my senses and and stayed there reminding me that there was more in the glass to indulge in. No way this is a porter.<br /><br />*runs to check label...*<br /><br />GYO, label says Grow Your Own. They grew the hops and barley? Huh. Who does that? Doesn't seem that they grew ALL the grain but at least one or two of them. They did however grow the hops. What makes this a lager? Hmm. It has a little coffee flavor to it, not overly chalky if at all, needs more burny, but it's decent. The only one I think I'd recommend besided teh weizenbock.<br /><br />Ridgetop Red<br />-"Highly Drinkable", yup. Also can be confused with , "No Body". A red, sure, But to toss teh word Amber in there implies a certain body that isn't present. It has a clean finish making you forget what it tasted like.<br /><br />Indianola Pale Ale<br />-Very claer for an IPA, good hops, decent body. It doesn't linger too long but it's pleasant.<br /><br />Fat Scotch Ale<br />--Mmm, peaty. It has a good body, lingering flavor, but I can see through it. Maybe it's their conditioning tank. Very sweet but it's changed a lot through the years.<br /><br />Beautimus Weizenbock<br />-This sh*t is banana's, b-a-n-a-n-a-s. Bavarian gets me every time. This beer is an odd favorite of mine and I'm not too familiar with them. Unlike any other beer you will typically have and that's why I like this style.<br /><br />Shannon's Irish Stout (nitro)<br />-Kinda dissappointed in this one. It does not pass the stout hole test. Not sweet, not full bodied. I really like nitro stouts, I really do. but this was fail. My taste buds are now in longing of a good one.<br /><br />ESB<br />-Fruit juice soda? EXTRA SPECIAL BITTER PEOPLE! They should be thick, tasty, malty, roasty. Especially if they claim to be an oatmeal stout. This beer is labeled as a Blueberry Oatmeal Stout. Hmm. The blueberry is fairly weak flavor which is fine by me. I don't feel fruit beers should be overly fruity and this beer isn't overwhelming in it's blueberry-ness. The body is about a medium and isn't quite as thick as I was expecting. The head poured a nice tan and has a nice dark reddish hue to it. It wasn't as malty as I wanted. Roastyness just wasn't there either. And den.......<br /><br />Stout hole test. Fail.<br /><br />I know, but I already was leading up to that. Overall though, not a terrible beer. Buffalo Bill does a Pumpkin Ale which I get every chance I can. I figured that the Blueberry Stout should be similar. Which it is cause the flavor blend of the fruit was done well and is tasteful. But to claim that it is an Oatmeal Stout? Nah. It's not. (It is, I should have read the bottle...)</p><p class="mobile-photo">Oh wow, first sip is amazing! It's sweet and thick, but smooth and there's some hoppy thing going on in the background. This is an imperial stout. It's one of those rare brew's I'd concede to being on par with my coveted brew, the Tard Munkey. It smells coffee chocolaty beery. Good head, but it's pretty white for an imperial stout. First sip - damn, it's a thin beer, sad. When I think imperial beer, I think of something thick with an in your face mouthfeel. This lacks that.<br /><br />Second sip, it's tasty, excellent stout, no chalky taste, very smooth. It tastes kind of like Guiness without the nitro pour. The nine and something alcohol content is masked well... Maybe a little too well. I kind of like the journy you get with some beers as they warm. This one tastes pretty consistent from start to finish.<br /><br />Good stout, but lacks some of the <span style="font-weight: bold;">BAM</span> I look for in an imperial stout. I'd put it in the same category as Elysian's dragonstooth stout. Beer here seems to be a bit more expensive but there are some jems to be found. This poured with a deep red hue to it and had little white head but a great malty roasted smell. My first taste and I knew this one was a keeper. It boastes of roasted coconut but they&#39;ve done a great job of blending it. Maybe it&#39;s the actual flavor or maybe it&#39;s talent, either way it&#39;s a winner. The typical chalky porter flavor was a little subdued compared to the nice thickness it presented. This beer looks like a stout when it pours, but is smells like, like oak on steroids? Don't know how to describe it. </p><p>My first sip had me dissapointed, it was "woo hoo it's a brown ale... dee dee dee, why am I not tasting that weird smell?" And it had a really dry finish. Strange, I know, I'd heard awesome things about this beer.</p><p>Third sip (second sip was blah), oh. Oh. OH! Wow. There's something awesome there. I didn't know you could bottle awesome but apparently dogfish head has figured out how. </p><p>For me the taste kept building, at first I wished they had gone with a more flavorful base beer, but as I drank more I'm glad they didn't. The dry finish seemed to fade away too, maybe I had the beer too cold?! Maybe it's the 12%... There's some kind of hickory, maple sugar, smoked oaky thing going on. I think I'm going to need another bottle to try to describe the taste.</p><p>Another amazing brew from Dogfish Head! </p><p></p><p>p.s. It was a little too smokey tasting for me. Tastes too much like liquid smoke. It's their amber. Yes I said amber, as in amber ale.</p><p><br />It tastes as watery as it looks. It doesn't smell like much, the head was very thin and dissipated quickly. My buddy described it as paying a premium for draft Budweiser.</p><p><br />I tried - I wanted to like your beer, I really did. I really liked <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Snoqualmie</span> Falls Brewery when I visited and I made a point to hit your booth at every beer event and to try as many offerings of yours as I could before I passed judgment. But I've been disappointed every time. Almost like a beer and wine mix. Pours like a beer, smells like a beer, but has a sweetish kind of white wine taste mixed in there.</p><p>First sip, the beer is thicker than I expected and a little sweeter than I thought it would be. I think the beer/wine flavors blend better as it warms a little. Smooth too. I'm liking it, but I'm not sure what it would go well with. There's a weird redbull-ish sweet/sour taste that I can't place. I'd call this beer a light dessert beer. Very refreshing too. It's got enough flavor to be interesting but light enough to be drinkable on a hot day. I better go grab some other beers before the last couple of IPA's I've had ruin them for me. This one is a C- at best. Not good at all. The hops were of just a wrong flavor and the body was all wrong. Maybe I got a bad batch? This beer is borderline gross. I keep thinking of doughy bread. Porters are one of my favorite beers but this one maintained a lightness on the tongue and lacked the chalkiness I'm sort of fond of in a porter. It had a great smell, off white head, and a great peaty presense. It wasn't too sweet and it clung to the palet nicely. Not quite a hot summer day beer but it did well.I've had Anacortes beer a couple times in the past and they haven't let me down before. I think not. I've been dominated by several beers in the past and this will not be another such case. The hop level isn't quite what you would expect from a "domination" IPA and it has almost a muddy hop flavor. The head poured white, it has a bubbly body, and the body is an off amber with cloudiness. You would expect a beer like this to have a crazy smell to it but this didn't have anything. I wouldn't recommend it. The head was white and it had a standardish co2 level that was pleasant and not overly harsh. Alongside with the deeper color it had a nice malt flavor that aided the beer well. It wasn't sweet like some IPA's (a good thing since sweet hops are not good). The hops were in full force though they didn't overdo it. I'd say this is what a typical IPA should be as nothing really stood out from other IPA's, making this pretty drinkable. It says it's a blend of their Black Hawk Stout and Eye of the Hawk Ale. It poured a dark mahogony color but the head quickly dissapated. It looked good but at first sip I couldn't tell what it wanted to be. I've had stout/IPA's before with great success but this one is too sweet and the ale just didn't lend enough flavor to offset the stout. Since it is a blended beer it was hard to tell. Overall not a great choice but I'm sure it's better from the tap. I'm not a fan of lagers or pilsners at all but I had to try this beer. Golden yellow body, white head, crisp carbonation. This beer has a malty lager flavor, light hops, and a light mouth feel anfter it's gone. By light I mean medium. It's got a decent flavor for a pilsner and I'd definetly have it again. Super flowery hop with a decent bittering hop portion. If it had a better bittering this would be an IPA. This characteristic (to me) doesn't make it a great Pale but it wasn't terrible. Tastes like some imperial stouts. Head poured an off white with a deep mahogony color. Not super drinkable but a decent beer to go with a steak dinner.
